Sheila Chandra
When I listened to the sound track of the The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers for the first time, I was mesmerized by the voice singing Breath of Life (click to listen). So I made a little research and discovered that the name of the singer is Sheila Chandra. Apparently, she has been well know in the UK in the 90s, and she falls in the category (how I dislike categories!) of Indi-pop, whatever that means. Anyway, I then visited Amazon.com to listen to different song samples from her various albums... How interesting! She is exploring the voice (her voice) as an instrument, sometimes as a percussion (!), enjoying vocalizes with songs in different languages (how I like hearing nicely done vocalizes! Singing vocalizes myself! And different languages!), songs from different cultures (Indian, Arab, Spanish).
During our last visit in Toronto, I finally got a hold of one of her albums: Weaving My Ancestor's Voices. Another surprise! She sings an arrangement of Nana (click to listen) a Spanish lullaby (Manuel De Falla: Siete Canciones Populare Españolas), that I've performed three years ago for my end-of-studies recital.
